Frequently asked questions

What is 5GASP?

5GASP is a European Research Project, part of 5G PPP (5G Public and Private Partnership), financed through the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme (5GASP H2020 – ICT- 2020), under grant agreement ID: 101016448.

5GASP aims at shortening the idea-to-market process through the creation of a European testbed for SMEs that is fully automated and self-service, in order to foster rapid development and testing of new and innovative Network Applications built using the 5G NFV (Network Function Virtualization) based reference architecture.

What is a Network Application?

A Network Application is an application that takes advantage of the new capabilities brought by the 5G networks.

5G relies heavily on enhanced network softwarization and control capabilities empowered by Network Function Virtualization (NFV) and Software Defined Networking (SDN). This, in turn, paves the way towards a common, agile and open network substrate driven by advanced intelligent network orchestration, while it opens up the market for innovation, wide adoption and new products to more players of different technological backgrounds and business domains.
